Walter Carl Miles, 80, of Lake Charles, formerly of Port Arthur, passed away on Monday, March 14, 2016 at St. Patrick Hospital in Lake Charles, LA.

Walter was born on January 28, 1936 in Shelbyville, Texas to parents Neva (Byrd) and John Marion Miles. He had lived in Port Arthur for 71 years and the last 9 years in Lake Charles. Miles was a member of Masonic Lodge #872; his was 32 Degree Master Masonic for 56 years. He was an electrician with IBEW #479 for 36 years. Walter enjoyed gardening, barbecuing and spending time with his family. Walter was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sons, John Clayton Miles and Mark Reed Miles.

Walter is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Rita (Clay) Miles of Lake Charles; daughter, Carla Jo Miles of Lake Charles; brother, Semmie R. Miles of Winnie. Also left to cherish his memory are his grandchildren, Kimberly Paige McCord of Denver, Judson Miles McCord of Lake Charles, Heather Pierce of Alaska; great grandchildren, Adilynn Marie McCord and Dayson Miles McCord.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 17, 2016 from 5 pm until 8 pm at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 18, 2016 at 10 am at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Wesley Welborn officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves.
