Martha Mayo Hammond June 11, 1925 - April 9, 2016

Martha Mayo Hammond, 92, of Groves, Texas passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at The Holmgreen Center in Corpus Christi, TX. She was born June 11, 1925 to Dora Thorn Mayo and Captain John B Mayo, Jr. in Mobile, Alabama. Her family moved to Port Arthur in 1937, Martha lived in the Groves for the past 63 years. She was a member of St George Episcopal church from 1937 to 2001 and Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Port Neches since 2001.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William Paulk Hammond and her son, William (Bill) Paulk Hammond, Jr.

She is survived by her son, Clayton Hammond (Dr. Denise) of Corpus Christi, TX and grandchildren Amy Elizabeth Hammond of Wilmington, NC, Chad Tyler Hammond of Bakersfield, CA, Courtney Elise Hammond of Dallas, TX and numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 15, 2016 from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM at Clayton-Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Port Neches, with Rev. Cliff Rucker officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society at www.leukenialymphoma.org .

So sorry to hear about Marthas passing. Our family (Peytons) lived next door to them on San Jacinto Ave in Port Arthur in the late 40s/50s. I am probably close to Clays age. Martha was such a caring and fun person. She always insisted we kids call her Martha! RIP Martha!
