Nancy Virginia Nicholas May 24, 1920 - July 19, 2016

Nancy Virginia Nicholas, 96, of Groves passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2016.

Nancy was born on May 24, 1920 in Orange, Texas to parents Frances (Zeto) and Joseph Vincent Salvagio. Nancy was a long time resident of Port Arthur. She attended Thomas Jefferson High School, graduating in 1938. She was a member of St. James Parish and St Catherine Parish for many years. She graduated from Lamar University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in teaching and began her teaching career at Woodrow Wilson Junior High School; followed by several years at Bishop Byrne High School and St. Catherine’s School, finally retiring at the age of 85.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Haskell Nicholas; her son, Barry Scot Nicholas; her brother, Vincent Salvagio; her sisters, Rose Salvagio, Josephine Salvagio.

Nancy is survived by her sons, Bob Nicholas and wife, Mary of Houston, Bill Nicholas and wife, Madeline of Orangefield; daughter, Ann Nicholas Hecker and husband, Ray Sr. of Groves; sister, Beverley Salvagio on Nederland. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 am on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at St. Catherine Catholic Church, with a gathering of family and friends from 10 am until service time. Celebrant will be Rev. J C Coon. Cremation arrangements were entrusted to Clayton Thompson Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Catherine’s School or the charity of your choice.

Mrs. Nicholas was my English teacher at Byrne as well as a regular customer when I worked at Weingarten's in high school. I have many fond memories of her - she was a good lady. Rev. Steve Leger
