Robert King Monk (“Bob”) lived in Port Neches and passed away Saturday, August 27, 2016 in the afternoon at home with LaRee and Elissa, his wife and daughter.
A Celebration of Bob’s life will be held 4:00 - 6:00 P.M., Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at The United Methodist Temple located at 4101 Highway 73 Port Arthur, TX 77642.
Raised in Port Neches by Oliver P. Monk and Frances K. Monk, Bob attended Lamar University and The University of Texas at Austin as an undergraduate and Baylor University School of Law.
Bob worked as a lawyer that represented the little guy. He was, as he often said, a “street lawyer” and by that he meant he would help people whether they could afford to pay up front or not. Bob took great pride in leveling the playing field by advocating for the meek and against those that might use their immense resources to otherwise bully their way through the justice system.
Bob was active in his Church until he passed and counted many of the community as his dear friends. Those that knew him knew that he would do anything for anyone at his own expense, and he always did it out of joy because he loved them.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and son, Oliver Monk, with whom he was united joyfully upon his passing. It is believed all are still engaged in a most joyous reunion and will be for some time.
Bob is survived by his wife LaRee Monk and daughter Elissa Monk as well as his sister Debbie Monk Hebert and brothers Steve Monk and Michael Monk.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked you to bring a covered dish of your choice to share with the family and friends that are able to attend from 4-6 P.M. to celebrate Bob’s life. The celebration will be held at The United Methodist Temple located at 4101 Highway 73, Port Arthur, TX 77642. A main course will be provided for you to enjoy with the family. The family asks that all those that knew Bob come and eat with them and celebrate Bob’s life by sharing your stories and memories of the man we all love.

LaRee, what a beautiful tribute to your wonderful husband. I cried out "NO" not Bob, Lord. I know his heart isn't broken any more and there are tears of joy in heaven at his re with Oliver and his parents. But I grieve with you my friend and am sorrowful for your loss. I love you LaRee. LaRee and Ellisa, I am sorry to hear of your loss. May the Comforter minister His Peace to each of you and the entire family. I am thankful to have known Bob and each of you. Bob was a very kind hearted man. I had the pleasure of working along side him at The Monk Lawfirm for 4 years. He taught me a lot about myself and about the legal field. He will be greatly missed by everyone. Praying for peace and healing for the entire Monk family.
