Jane Dare Moore April 16, 1937 - September 27, 2017

Jane Dare Sims Moore, 80, of Groves, TX passed away Monday, September 27, 2017 in Houston.

Jane was born on April 16, 1937 in Port Arthur, Texas.  She was a 1955 graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School and received a degree in music from Lamar University in 1959.  She also attended North Texas State University and the University of Hawaii.  She was a member of Delta Omicron Professional Music Fraternity.

She retired from the Port Arthur Independent School District; she taught music at Tyrrell Elementary and Travis Elementary, and was the Choral Director at Thomas Jefferson High School.

Jane was a Sustaining Member of the Service League of Port Arthur. She also was the director of the Port Arthur Choral Club.

She was a lifelong member of Procter Baptist Church were she served as church organist for over fifty years.  She directed children’s choirs, and directed New Creation, a young adult choral ensemble.

Jane was known for being very conscientious, and was a generous gift giver. She loved her family dearly and was a very thoughtful, loyal, and kind friend.

Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by her husband Jerry Marshall Moore, her mother, Jessie Claire Hay Sims, and her father Jesse Green Sims, Jr.

She is survived by her son, Dr. Jerry Mark Moore of The Woodlands, TX; Jonathan Scott Moore and wife Caroline of Austin, TX; daughter Jennifer Moore Endicott and husband Jonathan of Houston, TX; sister Sarah Sims Matheny and husband Michael of Beaumont, TX; brother Jay Gary Sims and wife Doris of Conroe, TX; grandson Bennett Marshall Endicott and granddaughter Finley Dare Endicott, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 1, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves, TX, with Dr. Rick Erwin officiating.   Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves, TX.  Visitation will be held Saturday evening September 30, 2017, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home.

Honored as pallbearers are Jonathan Endicott, Edward Long, Jr., Matthew Matheny, Dr. Gene E. Jones, John E. Pate, and Rouel Rothenberger.
