Obituary

Guillermo Castro June 25, 1919 - November 25, 2017

Mr. Castro was born in La Paz, Honduras on June 25, 1919 to Guadalupe Castro. He met the love of his life Irma O. Lacayo in Puerto Cortes, Honduras and they married in June 1950. In 1956 he moved his wife and two young children to Port Arthur, Texas where he and his beloved wife, raised six children all of which earned a college education. He was a merchant seaman for 43 years on board many commercial vessels that traveled throughout the world, retiring in 1981. Mr. Castro served as a Merchant Marine in World War II and during the Viet Nam conflict.

He was a dedicated family man and is survived by his wife, Irma and their six children – Irma G. Castro, Orlando G. Castro and wife Libby, Leonardo Castro, Lucille E. Shaffer and husband Dennis, Rebecca A. O’Hara and husband Gary, and Regina L. Castro. He has four grandchildren, April E. Fort and husband Henry, Christopher Castro, Denise R. Shaffer and Brianna L. Shaffer. His great-grandchildren, Xavier Fort, Lucius Fort, and Archer Fort plus several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 from 5:00 PM till 8:00 PM with a rosary tp be prayed at 6:00 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Port Arthur. Entombment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Clayton Thompson.
