Shirley Miller Knighton, 87, a lifelong resident of Port Arthur passed away on Friday, December 29, 2017 at her residence.

Shirley was born on March 12, 1930 in Port Arthur, Texas to parents Winnie (Millard) and James W. Miller. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1948 and she attended Port Arthur Business, receiving a secretarial degree. She had worked for several companies in the area; Townsend Dairy,  Kings Pharmacy and Port Arthur Independent School District. She enjoyed reading, painting and traveling with her family. Shirley was a member of Park Central Church of Christ. Shirley was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who will be dearly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dorman Ray Knighton and sister, Evelyn “Honey” Jones.

Shirley is survived by her son, Kim Knighton and his wife, Arlene of Port Arthur; her granddaughter, Heather Knighton and boyfriend, Brandon Lovelace; sister, Jimmie Wilson of Oklahoma. She is also survived by niece and nephew, Mike and Shirley Jones; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 1 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home, with at visitation held from 11 AM until service time. Officiating the service will be Brian French. Entombment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves.
