Humberto Vela December 18, 1933 - May 1, 2018

Humberto Vela Salinas was born on December 18, 1933 in Monterrey, Mexico to parents Leonor Salinas Vela and Jose Vela. He worked as a welder at Gulfport Shipyard, Burton Shipyard and Bethleham Steel. He was a member of the Boilermakers union.

Humberto lived in the Port Arthur/Groves area for 47 years. He was a longtime member of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Some of his favorite things to do was spending time with his family, telling stories & jokes and watching western movies. Humberto was loved by all and will be dearly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jose Noé Vela and Ireneo Vela.

Humberto is survived by his wife of 56 years, Isaura H. Vela; daughters, Isaura Smith and her husband, Kevin, Sasha Kimball and her husband, Eric and Marissa Lopez and her husband, Francisco; sons, Humberto (Joe) Vela and his wife, Marilyn. Patrick Vela and his wife, Kathy, Miguel Vela and his wife. Jill, Carlos Vela and his wife, Jodi, Tony Vela and his wife, Va1erie, Armando Vela and his wife Tonia. Alex Vela and his wife, Tanya and Brandon Vela and his wife Patricia. He is also survived by his 26 grandchildrenand sister Alfa Vela.

A 4 gathering of family and friends will be held on Thursday, May 3,  2018 from 4:30 PM till 6:30  PM with a rosary to be prayed at 6:30 PM  at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church at 2:00 PM Friday, May 4, 2018. Interment will follow in Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches.
