Robert J. Diaz, 63, of Groves, Texas passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at Methodist Hospital in Houston surrounded by his family.
Robert was born on September 7, 1954 in Port Arthur, Texas to Gilbert and Isabel Diaz. He was a native of Port Arthur. He was a graduate of Bishop Byrne High School, Class of 1973. Robert enjoyed training on the sea wall in Port Arthur during his competitive boxing days and was an exceptional boxing athlete. He was a member of the Dick Menchaca Boxing Club and won the Beaumont Area Golden Gloves Championship. He loved his family. Robert retired from Standard Alloys after 21 years of service.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Dana L. Diaz, his parents, Gilbert Diaz and Isabel Sandoval Diaz; sisters, Dolores Diaz Trahan and Theresa Diaz Grant; and his brothers, George Diaz and Ernest Diaz.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lisa Diaz of Groves, his son, Daniel Diaz of Groves, his daughter, Jolee Kramer and husband, Brian of Groves, his step-daughter, Cicley Esqueda of Port Arthur, his grandson, Landon Duhon, his granddaughter, Kayanna Kramer and his dog, Sandie. He is also survived by his brother, Gilbert Diaz of Houston, sisters, Yolanda and husband Charles Schrader of Groves and Rosalinda Cardenas of Groves along with several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Friday, June 22, 2018 from 5:00 PM till 8:00 PM with a rosary to be prayed at 6:00 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. Service to honor Robert’s life will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Saturday, June 23, 2018 in the Thompson Memorial Chapel at Clayton Thompson. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park
