Patrick Silva Aguilar, 99, of Nederland was called by our Lord on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at Harbor Hospice House in Beaumont. Patrick was one of the oldest surviving World War II Veterans in South East Texas. His WWII cap was part of his daily wardrobe, wearing it everywhere he went. Since Covid, he wore it around the house and in the backyard.
He was born on March 17, 1923 (in a box car) in Castroville, Texas to Miguel B. Aguilar and Melquiades Silva Aguilar. His family traveled to Port Arthur, Texas to find work in the refinery. He attended Thomas Jefferson High School but did not graduate because he proudly joined the Army Air Core. He married the love of his life, Petra Ybarra Aguilar of Port Arthur, in 1947. Patrick served from 1942 until 1945 as he followed the front lines across England, France and into Germany. When Patrick returned home later in 1945, he hired in as a laborer at Gulf Oil Refinery. Patrick was recalled to service during the Korean War Conflict in 1951. Patrick retired from Chevron/Gulf as an insulator after 39 years of service. Patrick hobbies were playing baseball as a young man, fishing, gardening, always seeing his son Glenn play baseball and football for the Nederland Bulldogs, painting, woodwork making religous items for the church to sell, always donating his work. He always enjoyed spending time with family and friends, his granddaughter Tina and his most precious joy, his great grandson Patrick.
Patrick was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Port Arthur and St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Nederland. He enjoyed helping his sweetheart with the organizations, Saint Vincent de Paul and the Altar Society at Our Lady of Guadalupe until her passing. Patrick was a lifelong member of Knights of Columbus Council #5145 in Nederland, Texas, Life member of the Veterans of Foriegn Wars and member of the National WWII Museum in New Orleans.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his four sisters, Delfina Aguilar, Juanita Cuellar, Rose Morel and Catherine Cortez; his five brothers, Mike Jimmy, Raymond, Santos, Ignacio and Frank Aguilar along with his wife and sweetheart, Petra Y. Aguilar.
Patrick is survived by his son, Patrick Glenn Aguilar of Nederland; his two daughters, Patricia “Pat” Munoz and husband Cesar of Port Arthur, Mary Aguilar of Nederland; his granddaughter, Tina Legendre and husband Scott of Pasadena, Texas; one great grandson, Patrick Adan Legendre along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Sunday, December 18, 2022 from 5:00 PM till 8:00 PM with a rosary to be prayed at 6:30 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Monday, December 19, 2022 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Rite of committal will follow in Memory Gardens in Nederland.
The family is requesting all visitors to wear a mask for visitation and services due to Glenn’s recent kidney transplant surgery.
