Mildred Mcgown West

Mildred McGown West, 98, of Port Arthur, Texas passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday, September 25, 2024. She was born in Bronson, Texas to Emma Jane Clark McGown and Malcolm Elijah McGown on August 6, 1926.

Mildred graduated from Silsbee High School and moved to Port Arthur in 1943 where she married her husband in 1946. She retired from the Department of Human Services in 1991. Mildred was a devout member of Proctor Baptist Church, attending as long as she was able. She was also a longtime and proud member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas and Order of the Eastern Star. She loved to laugh, spending time with her lifelong friends in Port Arthur, and she really loved sweets. But above all else, she loved nothing more than spending as much time as possible with her family, for whom she showed so much affection through her entire life.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 4, 2024 from 11:30 AM until 1:00 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 4, 2024 at 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves.

She was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings, Rubye Jones, Lois Tarver, Ida Pearl Wall and Milton McGown, her husband, Marshall West and their son, Michael Alan West.

Mildred is survived by her daughter, Marsha Sue West of Seabrook, Texas, her granddaughter, Stephanie Ann Reed and her husband Roy Reed Jr. of League City, Texas, three great-grandchildren, Trey Reed and his husband Fabian Rios, Bryan Reed, and Devin May and her husband Thomas May, and two great-great-grandchildren, Kambree Reed and Kennedy Reed. She is also survived by one sister, Patsy Holliman of Beaumont, Texas along with numerous nieces and nephews.
