Mayme Moore Bock was born on December 7, 1926 in Port Arthur, Texas. She passed away on January 5, 2021 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Orange, TX following a brief illness.
She was raised by two loving parents, Erma and Eddie Ellis. Mayme grew up in Griffin Park in Port Arthur and attended Thomas Jefferson High School where she was a Cheerleader of the State Football team and Queen of her Sr. Ball. Mayme attended Sophie Newcomb Nursing School in New Orleans, Louisiana but came back to Port Arthur early to marry the love of her life, Leonard Andrew Bock. They were married for 54 years before he passed away at age 74. Mayme never remarried and if you asked her why, she would say, “I had the best with Leonard, why would I want to settle for less now?”. They were fortunate to spend their last 10 years together traveling. They enjoyed many cruises, trips up and down the east and west coast, Canada, Europe and more. They were the perfect couple and enjoyed their time together – what a blessing.
Mayme loved God and loved her family. Mayme and Leonard worshipped faithfully throughout their life at both the Church of Christ and the Lutheran Church. She believed in Jesus Christ as her Savior and prayed daily for each and every family member. If someone needed prayer, she would add them to her list and sometimes say, “God you might want to sit down because I’m going to be a while with you”. Her favorite scripture, which she projected throughout her life, was, “This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it”…Psalms 118:24
Mayme and Leonard had three children; Mamie Melanie Bock (infant deceased at birth), Lynn Hampton Bock (deceased) and Jane Bock Roberts. Mother loved Jane’s husband of 45 years, Ronald Roberts, like a son. She adored her grandchildren, Bryan Bock of Bridge City, TX, Dustin Bock of Bridge City, Rachel Roberts Travis of Sour Lake, TX and John David Roberts of Beaumont, TX. She loved each of them unconditionally. She also has numerous great grandchildren whom she adored as well. They were truly the “loves of her life”!
Mayme had two sisters, Pat Perkins (deceased) and Yvonne Helffrich (of Plano, TX). She loved her sisters dearly and their children as well - Roxie Bellanger of Bridge City, TX, Dave Helffrich of Dallas, TX, Andrew Helffrich of Philadelphia, PA, and Lisa Medora Hudson of Houston, TX and their wives/husband and children. She is going to be greatly missed by all of her family.
Mayme will be remembered as a loving individual who gave of herself to others. She was the most positive-thinking, pleasant, witty, classy woman you would want to know. She was a counselor and caregiver to many. She and her mother owned Bridge City Real Estate for many years. She also served her community on the Appraisal District and working the voting polls. She was an avid reader and loved history. If you asked her what her favorite meal would be, she would say, “a pimento cheese sandwich”!
Mayme served God and served others throughout her life. She has now earned the gift of our heavenly father through Jesus Christ and has now made her home in heaven. Hallelujah!
