Mary Faye Simmons Landry died on July 28, 2020, just a few weeks before her 82nd birthday.
Born and raised in Port Arthur, Texas, She graduated from Vidor high school in 1957, and completed x-ray training at Saint Mary’s Hospital in 1959. She married Kenneth James Landry, a Port Arthur policeman who swept her off her feet, in October 1959. They lived all of their married life in Port Arthur, raising two girls, Lesa and Lana.
MaryFaye enjoyed her career in the x-ray departments of St. Mary’s Hospital and Mid-Jefferson County Hospital, seeing the beginning of ultrasound technology and other strides in radiology. She retired from her career in 1983. In her retirement years, she and KJ traveled the world, played cards with dear friends and family, and enjoyed life. Mary Faye was a “there every time the doors were open” member of several churches over her lifetime, having been a member of Proctor Street Baptist, First Baptist, and then Central Baptist in Port Arthur, and in her later years at First Baptist Church, Kingwood.
She is survived by her daughters and their families, Lesa and Mike Carter of Fredericksburg Virginia, and Lana and Jerry Lee of Magnolia Springs, Texas; three grandchildren: Rae and Ben Murdock (with great granddaughters, Morgan, Macy, and Hope) and Michael (Jake) Carter of Houston, and Katthryn Jo Carter of Austin; as well as her three siblings and families, Clyde D. (Buddy) and Sue Simmons of Groves, Max and Mara Simmons of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Della and Bob Best of Dallas, and sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Rodrigo Medellin of Clear Lake; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
The family appreciates your prayers and support, and encourages each friend and family member to participate in services only to the extent that he or she feels safe and protected. Visitation will be Friday, July 31, 5 to 7 PM and funeral services with be on Saturday, August 1 at 2 pm with a short graveside following. All require social distancing and masks.
If you feel so inclined, the family suggests memorial gifts to Grace Baptist Church Youth Activities Fund, or the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org in lieu of flowers.
