In Loving Memory of
Lindsay “James” Waits
Lindsay James Waits, 90, of Groves, passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2024.
James, a quiet and gentle soul, was born on March 1, 1934, in Big Cane, Louisiana to Elvia (Phillips) and Linzy Waits. He faithfully worshipped the Lord as a member of Gulf Ave. Church of Christ. He enjoyed Sudoku, working on vehicles, tinkering in his garage, collecting metal for recycling, and working in his back yard. He had an innovative mind and was always coming up with a way to “fix” things. Throughout his life, he and his wife, Joan, enjoyed traveling, visiting family, cruising, camping, buffets, and playing games. He was a devoted husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend. When in need, he was always a source of help. He and Joan supported their grandchildren by attending their many events and activities. James honorably served his country as a Marine in the Korean War. He served the city of Port Arthur 35 years as a police officer, bailiff, and warrant officer. Providing for his family was a priority in his life, often taking on extra police duties. He could be found working TJ games on Friday nights, parades, and funerals. Many would stop by and visit him at the Burger Chef parking lot on the weekends where he provided security.
James was preceded in death by Joan, his wife of 60 years, his parents, Elvia and Linzy, and his brothers, Richard and Gerald.
He is survived by his three daughters: Felicia Pulito and husband Brian of Port Neches, Robin Russell and husband Doyle of Ranger, and Deborah Lee and husband Joseph of Groves, his grandchildren: Kimberly Pulito, Jerry Russell and wife Amy, Jacob Russell and wife Krysten, and Nathan Lee, and great-grandchildren: Rylan, Logan, Aubrey, Alora, Morgan, Alyse, and Brynnley,
