James Samuel Hufstetler

January 19, 1946 — July 12, 2022

James Samuel Hufstetler, 76, of Orange, passed away on July 12, 2022 at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont with his son Robert by his side. He was born on January 19, 1946 in DeQuincy, Louisiana to Odis and Rosemary (Forte) Hufstetler.

He was a 1965 graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur, Texas. He went to school to be a barber but ended up going to work as a Union Carman with the Kansas City Southern Railroad where his grandfather and father worked. Throughout the years he enjoyed dabbling in many different activities at different times of his life such as carpentry, gardening, hunting, fishing, shrimping, crabbing, agitating (yes agitating), gambling, coin collecting, and later on keeping up with friends and family on Facebook. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with and talking to his family and friends.

James had two sons, Jason and Robert Hufstetler. James married Patricia Ann Waggoner on June 17, 1985 and gained two daughters, Lorena and Leslie Bertrand.

He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and great grandfather.

He is preceded in death by his wife Patricia Ann (Waggoner Bertrand) Hufstetler; his daughter, Lorena Bertrand; his mother, Rosemary; his father Odis; and his brother, Arthur Eugene Hufstetler.

He is survived by his sons Robert (Donna) and Jason (Shere’); daughter, Leslie Guidry (Michael); sisters, Dorothy Jannise (John), Judy Watkins (Johnny) and sister-in-law Vicky Hufstetler; grandchildren, Trey Hufstetler, Lauren and Jesse Dameron, Jessica Dumesnil (Brock), Eric Pierce (Lakin), Sydney Brown (Tyler), Glenn, Darryn, Allison Guidry, Aryca Bussell (Weston), Mikey Baber (Kylie) along with great grandchildren Addyson, Harper, Lilian, Isaac Dumesnil, Denver Pierce, Clara Brown, Coy and Ellie Bussell.

Thank you all who provided care to our Dad. Special thank you to Joshua Willis for volunteering to help Dad.

A 2:00 PM funeral service will be held on Friday, July 15, 2022 in Thompson Memorial Chapel at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves, with a gathering of family and friends from 12:00 PM until service time at the funeral home. The family will hold a private graveside service at Autumn Oaks Memorial Park in Orange.

Honoring James as pallbearers will be Tyler Brown, Brock Dumesnil, Eric Pierce, Josh Willis, Trey Hufstetler and PJ Leblanc.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
