Helen Marie Duhon Nunez, 95, of Dallas died Friday, July 26, 2019 at Faith Presbyterian Hospice in Dallas, Texas after a courageous battle against cancer. She was born July 30, 1923 in Port Arthur, Texas to Jennie Lee Rodriguez Duhon and Ovey Joseph Duhon. Helen is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Louis Joseph Nunez of Nederland, Texas; her son, Randy Paul Nunez of Austin, Texas; her sisters, Delores Travis of Beaumont, Texas and Lee Domingue of Nederland, Texas: and her brother, Ovey Duhon of Port Arthur, Texas.
She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur, Texas in May of 1942 and married Louis Joseph, better known as “Jay”Nunez on April 17, 1943. The couple had two children, Randy and Debbie and lived in Port Arthur for sixty years. After Jay retired from Texaco, they moved to Austin to be close to their children and grandchildren. Helen’s loving support and devotion to her family was part of her character and for the past few years she was involved in watching and encouraging her ten great-grandchildren. Her family was truly blessed to have such a loyal mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Debbie Nunez Landry of Dallas, Texas; her brother, Rodney Duhon and his wife Patricia of Beaumont, Texas; her daughter-in-law, Carol Nunez of Walsenburg, Colorado; her grandchildren, Brandi Nunez Menegatti and her husband David of Walsenburg, Colorado; Ryan Nunez of New Braunfels, Texas; Brant Landry and his wife Jennifer of Dallas, Texas; and Ashley Landry Baskin and her husband CL of Houston, Texas. She is also survived by ten great grandchildren; MaLeigha, Dawson, and Bradie Menegatti of Walsenburg, Colorado; Jake, Wyatt, Peyton and Taylor Baskin of Houston, Texas; and Garrett, Jay, and Cade Landry of Dallas, Texas.
A gathering of Helen’s family and friends will be from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, August 2, 2019 at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home, 5200 39 th Street, Groves, Texas, with a rosary being prayed at 6:30 pm at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Saturday, August 3, 2019 at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home. Entombment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park, 3900 Twin City Hwy, Groves, Texas.
The family is grateful for the skilled and caring nurses and staff of Faith Presbyterian Hospice in Dallas, Texas. Thanks is also given for extended family members, friends, and coworkers for their support, faith, and enduring love.
