Elsie Louise Buchanan

August 5, 1930 — October 27, 2021

Elsie Louise Cessac Buchanan (Mawmaw Buck) passed away on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at home with her loving family by her side. Elsie was 91 years old, born August 5, 1930  in Port Arthur,Texas to  Alex and Cecile Cessac. Married to Buck for 65 years.

Survived by 8 children and spouses: Donna and Tony Whitehead, Terri Buchanan, Alex and Chris Buchanan, Danny and Belinda Buchanan, Jeff and Verlene Buchanan, Mark Buchanan, David and Liz Buchanan, Jimbo and Nan Buchanan,  20 grandchildren, and 29 great grandchildren.

All who knew her, loved her dearly and found hope in her strong faith.

She took pride in her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, always eager to participate and attend every activity.

She left behind so many great memories. Just  a few of her favorite pastimes were enjoying a great beer at Buckstin and of course every beer was her “favorite.” Another great pastime was fishing at Jeff and Verlene’s pond and always waiting to catch the “BIG ONE”. The weekends at Lemonville helping with the animals and feeding baby goats along with advising them how to grow a “proper” garden.

The beach became a favorite place in the last few years, searching for shells and dancing at night with her boys to her favorite songs. Her favorite song being “Family Tradition”.

Everyone  knew what a great cook she was and left us with many great recipes to carry on for years to come. Some of her favorites were cooking tongue, famous cheesecake, burritos and salmon croquettes.

She was a devoted Catholic dedicated to saying The Holy Rosary. She served as a Eucharistic Minister, bringing communion to the homebound, and teaching religious education.

The visitation will be held at Clayton Thompson on Friday October 29,2021 5pm-8pm. Rosary will begin at 7pm.

A Mass of Christian Burial with Father JC Coon officiating will be at 10am on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at St. James Catholic Church in Port Arthur. Entombment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches.
