Dorothy Jean Thigpen, a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on November13, 2024, in Port Neches, Texas. Born on November 16, 1931, in Houston, Texas, Dorothy lived a life filled with love, compassion, and dedication to her family.
Dorothy was a devoted employee at JC Penney, where she worked in the receivable department and as a switchboard operator from 1962 until her retirement in 1998. Her commitment to her work and the relationships she forged there were a testament to her remarkable character.
In her personal life, Dorothy was known for her warm personality and love for her family. She cherished reading, sewing, and spending quality time with her family, creating lasting memories that will forever be a part of their lives. Her spirit and kindness touched everyone she encountered, making the world a brighter place.
She is survived by her sons, Van Thigpen Jr. and wife Denise of Lumberton, James Thigpen and wife Elena of LaBelle, and Tommy Thigpen and wife Cynthia of Port Neches; her daughter, Sheryl Thigpen Robbins of Montgomery; her brother, Edwin Hetzel of Port Arthur; and her sister, Melba "T-Fay" Wolf of Colmesneil. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren, her twenty-one great grandchildren and one great-great grandchildren. Each family member holds dear the cherished moments spent with Dorothy and will carry her legacy forward in their hearts.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her, husband, Van Thigpen Sr., her father, Edwin Fredrick Hetzel, her mother, Roselee Rogers Hebert, her grandchild, Kristy Robbins, and daughter-in-law, Kay Thigpen; as well as her siblings, Willie Mae Stifflemire, Kathrine Schmidt, June Scrofen, Hallie Bennett, and Joe "Butch" Hebert. Though they have parted ways in this life, their memories will undoubtedly bring comfort to those she leaves behind.
A visitation will be held in Dorothy's honor on November 16, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home located at 5200 W. Parkway St., Groves, TX 77619.
As we remember Dorothy Jean Thigpen, we celebrate a life filled with love, laughter, and a legacy that will continue to inspire all who had the privilege to know her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
