David Kent Barnes, 77, of Port Arthur passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, July 29, 2024.
He was born on August 18, 1946 in Seattle, Washington to Jean Eagan Barnes and Floyd Franklin Barnes. David has been a resident of the area since 1993. After his service in the US Army and various leadership positions in the private sector he worked and retired from the US Postal Service at the distribution center in Beaumont, Texas. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Port Arthur, where he proudly served as a lector. David was also a member of the Franciscan Order.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Marilee Tate and Mitzi Barnes; his brother, Ronald Barnes and his wife, Carol.
David is survived by his loving wife, Alice Gongora Barnes of Port Arthur; his daughter, Christina Barnes of Blue Springs, Missouri and his son, Matthew Barnes and wife Meagan of Vidor; his five grandchildren, Staci Mendoza (Jacob), Katie Nale (Charles), Dylan Caldwell, Anthony Barnes and Nathan Tabor along with five great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Douglas Barnes and wife Claudia of Carrier, Mississippi; his brother-in-law, Ron Tate of Detroit, Michigan as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Arrangements for cremation are entrusted to Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. Visitation will be on Monday, August 5, 2024 from 5:00 PM till 8:00 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Port Arthur with Father Joseph Sigur, serving as celebrant. Private burial of his ashes will be in Calvary Cemetery in Port Arthur.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church maintenance fund in Port Arthur, Texas.
