Bobby Joe Hammers born on May 6, 1952 in Port Arthur, Texas.
Bobby is survived by his daughter, Brandy Hammers of Port Acres; granddaughter, Sadie Temple of Nederland; son, Oscar Simmons and his wife, Mindy of Bridge City; his loving companion of over 9 years, Judy Gervais of Kirbyville; and her children, Shanna Loyd and her husband, Tom of Kirbyville and Kyle Harrison of High Island; sisters, Carolyn Frioux of Beaumont, Avie Allen and her husband, Steve of Marietta, GA; brother, David “Allen” Hammers of Port Acres; grandsons, Reid and Rhett Simmons and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family.
Bobby lost his battle with cancer in the comfort of his home surrounded by family and friends on Thursday, March 5, 2020.
Bobby was a Vietnam Veteran. He served in the US Armed Forces (US Army) in Korea from 1972 to 1974. He then worked as a Carpenter Foreman in all of the area refineries for over 40 years and was a member of the Local Carpenter's Union.
Bobby took great pride in doing yard work and gardening. He loved grilling, cooking and watching football with Judy, and his family and friends.
Bobby was always there to help relatives, neighbors and friends with household projects or whatever else people needed him for.
Bobby is preceded in death by his parents, Sybil and Buck Hammers of Port Acres and his ex-wife/friend Deborah Nequent of Port Acres.
Also, the family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to Leigh Tyler, Letisia Edwards, Ruth Cooper and Nathan Fleetwood of Trinity Hospice, along with his niece, Kathy Wright and her husband, Mike of Nederland for their loving care and support during his final days.
Bobby was a very caring and loving father, grandfather, companion and friend.
A celebration of his life will be held at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves, Texas on Sunday, March 8, 2020 at 2:00 PM, with a gathering of family and friends from 12:00 pm until service time. He will be honored with Military Honors from Southeast Texas Veteran Service Group. Arrangements for cremation after the services will be entrusted to Clayton Thompson Funeral Home.
