J. Jerry "Pop" McCorkle of Port Arthur, Texas passed away on Friday, October 5, 2007 at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 75. He was born in Jennings, Louisiana on October 13, 1931 to Angeline nee Burnett McCorkle and John Harley McCorkle. He has been a resident of Port Arthur for 75 years. Jerry graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and from the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering. He retired from Dupont SRW as a senior electrical engineer after 39 years of service. He was a Lt. in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. Jerry was always one that put his children and grandchildren first, he loved them with all of his heart and soul. He loved everybody and considered all to be his best friend. He was a Christian man that loved life and lived each day like it was his last. He enjoyed playing golf, an avid fan of UT and the Dallas Cowboys. He will be missed by all those that knew and loved him. Visitation will be on Wednesday, October 10, 2007 from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be at 2 P.M. Thursday, October 11, 2007 in the Thompson Memorial Chapel at Clayton Thompson with Dr. Ronald Herring, officiating. Cremation service will be at Haven of Rest Crematory under the direction of Clayton Thompson. He is survived by the love of his life and his best friend, Gayle nee Beckcom McCorkle of Port Arthur and his daughter, Debbie (Steve) Duke of Vidor, Texas son, David (Theresa) McCorkle of Caseyville, Illinois. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Shane (Alison) Duke of Caseyville, Illinois, Shaun Duke, LCPL Scott Duke, Rachel McCorkle and Chase McCorkle along with his brother, Bill McCorkle of Bridge City, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to Susan G. Coleman Breast Cancer Foundation or to the Epilepsy Foundation, 2630 Fountain View, Suite 210 Houston, Texas 77057.
