Richard B. "PePaw" Tompkins, 87, of Groves, Texas died Thursday June 4, 2009 at Magnolia Manor Nursing Home in Groves, Texas. He was born November 13, 1921 to Hattie Thompson Tompkins and Richard Tompkins in Port Arthur, Texas. He lived in the area for most of his life and has lived in Groves for 54 years. Richard served in the U. S. Army during WWII. He retired from Gulf Oil as a pumper after 38 years of service. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Margaret, sons James and Randy Tompkins, parents Hattie and Richard Tompkins, brothers Emmett, Johnny, Marion "Sonny", James "Buddy", Charlie and Robert, sisters Lucille Martin, Jimmie Lee Garner, Willie Mae Huebel, Edna Curtis and Daisy Anderson. Richard is survived by his sons Gary and his wife Debbie Tompkins of Groves, Texas, Earl and his wife Cathy Tompkins of Port Arthur, Texas, his daughters Linda and her husband Darrell Perea of Groves, Texas, Cheryl and her husband Butch Simpson of Spring, Texas. He was an incrediable grandfather to his grandchildren David and Kim Tompkins, Dana Jackson, Dean and Linda Haley, Cheri Tapp, Deena and David Varnado, Andri and Jeremy Lloyd, Kim and Brad Ross, Chris and Kara Tompkins, Kari and Joey Plessala, Ashli Simpson, Randi and Chris Block and Darci Simpson along with 16 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Ivy Ploet and lots of very special nieces and nephews, Special friends include his true buddy Clyde Caughlin and family, Doris and Edward Hanks and family, and many friends whom he loved very much.
