Rufina B. Adams, 82, of Port Arthur passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont. A native of Port Arthur. Rufina was a 1946 graduate of Thomas Jefferson. She retired from The Port Arthur News after working many years in the Accounting Department. Rufina was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Port Arthur. She served as a Eucharistic Minister, Lector, a member or the choir, Senior Club and Altar Society. Until her illness she volunteered at Christus St. Mary's Hospital, active member of the South East Texas Mexican Hispanic Cultural & Education, past member of the Mexican Heritage Society of Port Arthur and served on the board of The Gulf Coast Health Center. She is preceded in death by her husband, Steve Adams, Sr. parents Rafael and Amparo Barbosa, and sister Lupe Aguilar. She is survived by her nieces Andrea Babington and husband Larry, Alice Robbins and husband Robert both of Port Arthur. Great nieces Juliana Babington, Annie and Raechal Robbins. She was deeply loved by Tila Flores of Nederland and her daughters Caroline Harkins of Houston, Kathy Borne and Patricia Trumble both of Nederland and Diana Durbin of Port Arthur and they held a special place in her heart. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Harbor Hospice and Caregivers Tina Wycoff, Annette Spencer, Irene Berg and Felicia Bell for the wonderful care they gave Rufina during her illness. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church or Harbor Hospice of Beaumont.
