John A. (Johnny) Hoffpauir was born on February 7, 1936 in New Orleans, Louisiana and passed away on August 7, 2009 at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas - surrounded by many longtime friends who cherished his wit, loyalty, devotion, generosity, support and love for decades. He touched the lives of everyone he encountered - his family, friends and clients. He is preceded in death by his parents Mae and James A. (Pee Wee) Hoffpauir. He is survived by cousins Ann Otey Carmine, Orlando, Florida, Catherine Otey of Barcelona, Spain, David Otey of Billings, Montana, Angela Otey of San Antonio, Texas, Carol Otey of Chapel Hill, NC, John (Bunky) Hoffpauir of Port Arthur, Bobby Hoffpauir of Beaumont, Texas, Jeff Hoffpauir of Bridge City, Texas, Garolyn Chauvette of Kerrville, Texas, Buddy Hoffpauir of Kerrville, Texas and others. His father was a construction supervisor for Stone and Webster in various locations throughout North America. Johnny frequently moved with his parents before settling in Port Arthur, Texas. Johnny attended school at Tyrrell Elementary, Woodrow Wilson Jr. High, and Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur, Texas. At Thomas Jefferson he played varsity basketball and baseball. After graduation he attended the University of Texas at Austin from 1954-55. In 1955 Johnny joined the Army with ten friends from Port Arthur. He had basic training in Fort Knox, Kentucky as part of the Audie Murphy Platoon-a specialized group in honor of Audie Murphy's military career. Johnny was assigned to the Third Armored Division in Kirch Goens, Germany and served in an Armored Infantry Battalion from 1956 to 1958. After the Army he attended Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas from 1963 to 1967 graduating with a BBA in Accounting. He was employed with several major CPA firms in Houston from 1967 to 1974, and with Marvin Campbell, CPA in Port Arthur from 1974 to 1978. He resumed his career in Houston as a CPA in 1978, and in 1983 formed a CPA firm as a Sole Practitioner and professionally served many clients for the last 26 years.
