Raymond Mark Jones, 88, of Nederland, Texas passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at a Private Care Facility in Groves. He was born February 8, 1921 to Jewell "Mattie" Herndon Jones and Mathew Madison Jones in Waycross, Georgia. He served in the United States Army during WWII as a Sergeant. Raymond lived in Maryland for 51 years, where he was employed as a government employee in the US Naval Research Lab in Washington, DC for 33 years until his retirement. He was married to Alice Gerhardt Jones for 30 years until her death in 1985. He married Hilda Arceneaux Jones in 1987 and they moved to Nederland, they were married for 18 years until her death in 2005. Raymond was a member of Gulf Avenue Church of Christ, life member of National Rifle Association, longtime member of Lion's Club International, lifelong conservative Republican and a hobby birdwatcher. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wives Alice and Hilda, his sister Pearl South of Long Beach, California, his brothers Matthew Jones of San Diego, California and Henry "Eddie" Jones of Groves, Texas. He is survived by his stepdaughter/niece Joy Jones of Nederland, Texas who loving called him "Uncle Dad", two step granddaughters Darla Fountain and husband Chris of Texarkana, Texas and Jana Ewing and husband Chris of Kaufman, Texas,three step great grandchildren Caleb, Jacob and Hayden Ewing all of Kaufman, Texas.
