Nellie Oubre

Nellie "MeMe" Girouard Oubre, 104, of Port Arthur passed away on Tuesday December 1, 2009 at the Community Retirement Home in Port Arthur. She was born February 25, 1905 to Anaise Berard Girouard and Ovignal Girouard in Loreaville, Louisiana as the third of eight children. She married her husband Henry Oubre in 1926 and they moved to Port Arthur shortly after that. Nellie raised thier three boys, while Henry a general contracter and local homebuilder provided for the family. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church and was a former member of the Altar Society at church. She was preceded in death by her parents, six siblings and her husband Henry Oubre, her daughter-in-law Margaret Oubre. MeMe is survived by her sons Ora Oubre and wife Margaret of Port Arthur, Gerald Oubre and wife Pat of Groves, Cecil Oubre of Port Arthur, eight grandchildren Terry Oubre, Tracy Oubre, Max Duplant, Rev. Sinclair Oubre, Shawn Oubre, Stephen Oubre, Chris Oubre and Todd Oubre, eleven great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild as well as her baby sister Paula Greig of St. Martinville, Louisiana along with numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
