Mildred Ruth Van Devender VanHess, 82, of Port Arthur passed away on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at Dubuis Hospital in Port Arthur. She was born June 2, 1927 to Mildred Clair Van Devender and Leroy Van Devender in Ensley, Alabama. She has been a resident of Port Arthur since 1932. Ruth was a member of the Red Hussar Drum and Bugle Corp at Thomas Jefferson High School, where she graduated. She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church and a longtime member of the Ladies Auxiliary at Park Place Hospital in Port Arthur. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Leroy and Terry Van Devender. Ruth is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Francis VanHess of Port Arthur, her daughter, Karen Rasa and husband Jim of Groves, her son, Roy VanHess and wife Nora of Bridge City, five grandchildren, Jennifer Michelle Carson, Robert Christopher Rasa, Heather Brown, Brenda Ivey, Roy Adams along with 11 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Carl VanDevender and wife Lolly of Port Arthur as well as several nieces and nephews.
