Roland Johnson, 90, of Port Arthur, Texas passed away on Thursday, March 25, 2010 at Christus St. Mary Hospital in Port Arthur, Texas. He was born July 30, 1919 to Lula Jefferson Smith Johnson and James Melvin Johnson in Cookville, Texas. He served as a Combat Engineer with the 8th Army during WW II. Roland was a resident of Port Arthur for over 55 years and retired from Texaco after 34 years as a Stillman. He was a member of Procter Baptist Church; he enjoyed gardening and loved to travel with his grandchildren as well as fishing and camping. His favorite times were when family gathered to eat together. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Lillian Strother. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Agnes Cushion Johnson of Port Arthur, Texas, his daughter Margaret Lu Bailey and husband Daniel L. Bailey, Jr. of Richards, Texas, two grandchildren, Rebecca N. Holtey and husband Brett of Richards, Texas and Cort R. Norwood and Joan Teer of Richards, Texas, along with four great grandchildren, Cortny Marie Norwood, Elizabeth Holtey, Adelia Grace Holtey and Joseph Johnson Holtey, niece, LaVerne Lovelace of Arlington, Texas and a host of other family and friends. Memorial contributions may be made to the M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in memory of Roland.
