Dean Mullins

Dean D. Mullins, 82 of Groves went to live with the Lord on Sunday, May 30, 2010. Dean was born on November 27, 1927 in Mankato, Kansas to Charley and Florence (Hancock) Mullins. He started high school in Mankato and then moved to Concordia, Kansas and graduated high school in 1945. Dean was drafted into the Army in March of 1946 and spent the next 2 years in North Carolina and Arizona. Upon discharge, he went to Creighton University and then transferred to Kansas State University and graduated in 1951 with a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering. After graduation he married Maxine Ferron and went to work in the Natural Gas Pipeline Industry during which time they raised 3 children together. After 43 years of marriage and retiring as a Area Manager for A N R pipeline company with 32 years of service his first wife, Maxine passed away. Dean started visiting his son, Bart in Texas, met and married Janet B. Thibodeaux of Groves, Texas. During his career he lived in Kansas, Oklahoma, Indiana and Michigan. Job related travel also allowed him to travel to Canada, France, Italy, Belgium and Japan. He was a registered Engineer in both the states of Kansas and Oklahoma. Dean was a member of the American Gas Association, served as President of the Church Council and on the Board of Directors for the St. Vincent De Paul Society. He was also on the Senior Advisory Board for the Commerce Bank of Missouri, member of the Kiwanis Club and the Knights of Columbus. Dean was an active member of St. Peter Catholic Church and also worked at the Hospitality Center for a number of years. Dean is preceded in death by his first wife, Maxine and his parents. He is survived by his wife Janet of Groves, TX., son, Barton Mullins and wife Theresa of Nederland, TX., daughters Sharon Mullins Schroll and husband Linn of Manhattan, Kansas and Deborah Mullins Pawela and husband Michael of Partville, Missouri, step-sons, Ricky and wife Becky Thibodeaux of Groves, TX. and Brian and wife Tracye Thibodeaux of Port Neches, TX., step daughter, Vickey and husband Michael McBride of Winnie, TX., 14 grandchildren, Andrew, Matthew and Daniel Mullins, Shane and Kelsey Schroll, Drew and Max Pawela, Adam, Alex and Collin Thibodeaux, Angela Lerew, Aaron, Abel and Allen McBride, 2 great-granddaughters, sisters, Opal Shrouf and Wanda Isley and husband Ron.
