Lavenia B. Durso

August 5, 1943 - July 2, 2010

Lavenia (VeeVee) Bray Durso, 66, of Groves, Texas and former resident of Nederland passed away on Friday July 2, 2010 at Magnolia Manor Nursing Home in Groves. She was born August 5, 1943 to Johnnie Chapin Bray and Weldon Bray in Garrison, Texas. She graduated from Lufkin High School. Lavenia become a beautician, having owned and operated shops in Houston and Lumberton, as well as taught at local high schools. She earned a master degree in Sociology, graduating Magna Cum Laude from Lamar University. She worked at Life Resources as a social worker. She lived in the area for over 45 years and was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Richard Bray and her husband, Anthony Joseph Durso. She is survived by her son, Kelly Sparks and wife Pat of Henderson, Texas, two grandchildren, Ashley Hunt and Rendi Peterson and husband Jim, four great grandchildren along with her two sisters, Sharon Garrard and husband James of Beaumont, Texas and Delene Foster and husband Leif of Wildwood, Texas as well as several nieces and nephews.
