Gladys Elizabeth Daire, 90, of Port Arthur, Texas died on September 16, 2010. Born in Manistique, Michigan in 1920 to Cleon and Violet Davenport she moved with her family to Texas in 1927, settling in San Antonio. After graduating from high school, she married, had two daughters, then settled in Port Arthur after the war. She worked for Texaco for eight years before earning her nursing degree from Lamar. She then worked for both St. Mary & St. Elizabeth hospitals. She and her family moved to Nederland in 1963, retired and moved to Lake Rayburn for a few years before returning to Port Arthur. She and her husband loved to travel and were members of several camper clubs including the Alaskan Camper Club, National Campers and Hikers and The Allegro Motorhome Club. They traveled the country including Hawaii, but their favorite trip was the one they took to Alaska in their pick-up camper in 1970. Gladys was preceded in death by her husband of forty four years, Lereal "Leroy" Daire, her parents, seven sisters and two brothers. She is survived by her daughters, Joan McElroy Moore and husband Rick of Wildwood and Judy McElroy Sanders and husband Jesse of Hempstead, Texas; four grandchildren, Sandra Wilson Dixon of Nederland, Todd Wilson of Port Arthur, Chris Sanders and wife Janet of Tomball, Texas and Angela Sanders Avery and husband Mike of Tallahassee, Florida; six great grandchildren, Amanda Holliday Lundy, Erik Wilson, Joey and Natalie Sanders, Austin and Madison Avery and one great-great grandson Maison Scott Lundy. Gladys was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church of Nederland.
