Bernice Marie Trahan died on November 14, 2010 at Whispering Oaks Hospice in Lumberton, Texas. She was born on January 2, 1920 in Scott, Louisiana to Transquillian Bernard and Olivia Ancelet Bernard. She lived in Port Arthur, Texas for seventy-eight years and was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School. She was married to Captain Virgil Trahan of the Gulf Deer until his death in 1975. Preceding her in death were her parents, siblings, Wilfred Bernard, Raleigh Bernard, Irvin Bernard, Louise Bernard Cradier, Nola Bernard Hanks, and her nephews, Vernon Cradier and Ralph J. Hanks Mrs. Trahan worked for Gulf Oil Corporation for forty years. She retired in 1984 as the first female Laboratory Supervisor at Gulf Oil. She often spoke of how grateful she was to have worked for such a wonderful company. She always looked forward to the Gulf Retiree Christmas Party each year. She is survived by her niece and her husband, Debbie and Farrell Smith of Beaumont, Texas, her niece Mrs. Louann Arredando, of Port Arthur, TX., her niece, Kathleen Mire of Scott, Louisiana and nephew, Michael Cradier of Frankfurt, Germany. She will be greatly missed by her great-niece and her husband Farrah and Tom Cobb, their children Austin and Kate, and her great-nephew, Jason Smith of Beaumont, TX. To some she was Mrs. Trahan, to others "Bern", to some family, "Aunt Bern", but to me she was "Nannie", my Godmother, my friend, and someone I will miss until I see her again in heaven. Our family would like to thank the staff of Summer Place and Mrs. Joyce Lopez of Whispering Oaks for the wonderful care that she received during her illness. We would like to thank Dr. Nouri for his compassion and care while she lived in Port Arthur. We also would like to thank Dr. Maria Blahey and Texas Home Health Hospice for making her final days so peaceful.
