Ruth Garcia Healey, 92, of Port Arthur, Texas, died February 16, 2011. She was born January 8, 1919, in Daytona Beach, Florida, the eldest child of Raymond Francis Garcia and Ruth Coates Garcia. Her grandparents, Herbert and Lillian Coates, were pioneers of Daytona Beach. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Florida State University and attended medical school at Tulane University where she received a Master's degree in chemistry and met her future husband. She was a resident of Port Arthur for 60 years and a member of St. George's Episcopal Church, South Jefferson County Medical Auxiliary and Daughters of the American Revolution. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Gordon Healey, and one of her sisters, Elsie Thompson. Her survivors include her daughter Kathleen Healey Gumberger and her husband George of Port Arthur, her son Dr. Bruce Healey and his wife Sherry of Nederland, her sister Lillian Harry of Daytona Beach, her brother Dr. Gould Garcia and wife Nancy of Emporia, Kansas; four grandchildren - Gary Parsley and wife Shelly of Kingwood, Dr. Sean Healey and wife Becky of Beaumont, Kevin Parsley and wife Stacy of Port Neches, and Deborah Healey Drago and husband Philip of Port Arthur; and ten great-grandchildren - Katie and Bob Parsley of Kingwood, Reagan, Ryan and Grant Healey of Beaumont, Bryce and Brynn Parsley of Port Neches, and Abigail, Matthew and Michael Drago of Port Arthur; and numerous nieces and nephews.
