Mary Josephine Lillian Greene Babin (Maureen) died at Home Away From Home in Port Arthur, Texas March 9, 2011. Maureen was born in Moyglass, Co. Clare, Ireland to Francis Greene and Elizabeth Donnelan Greene. She was the oldest of 7 children. She asserted her independent spirit early when she left home for London before World War II in order to study nursing. Maureen served valiantly as a nurse through the Blitz of London. During her ordeal, she met the light of her life, William Morrison Babin, "my yank, II who was stationed in London. They married in 1943 and their first child, Laurenda, was born in England in 1945. The couple moved to Bill's hometown in 1946. Port Arthur has been home for the last 65 years. Maureen was a proud and spirited Irish lady, even as she loved her adopted country, state, and hometown. Maureen continued her nursing career for fifty years. She was much beloved by patients and families for her kind, caring spirit generously bestowed on those unable to care for themselves. Her cherished husband, Bill Babin, who died in 1976, preceded Maureen in death. One sister, Kathleen Greene Marshall, Manchester, UK, daughter and son-in-law, Laurenda & Bob Wolford of Nederland, son and daughter-in-law Wayne & Kathy Babin of Tyler survive her. In addition she is survived by grandchildren Troy & Chris Wolford, Michelle & Richard Cawood, Ryan & Kalynne Wolford, David & Claire Henry, Sarah Babin, and Abby & Jamie Nodler. Maureen is the proud great grandmother of eight grandchildren: Dani & Sean Wolford; Hayden, Harrison & Henry Cawood; Libby Wolford; Eloise Henry; and Zoe Nodler. The family would like to thank the staff of Home Away From Home for the love and care all the years Maureen was a resident. Also Odyssey Hospice and Dr. Avila Arcala.
