Flora Marie Gaona Hernandez, 77, passed away on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born September 1, 1933 to Ramona Ramirez Gaona and Refugio Gaona in Beaumont, Texas. She graduated from Beaumont High School. She met and married Elias Hernandez in 1956 and they moved to Port Arthur to raise their family. Flora worked as office manager at Hernandez and Solis Inc. for 29 years before she retired. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Port Arthur. Flora was a former board member of American Cancer Society, founder of Reach To Recovery Program, for patients with breast cancer and also volunteered for Mercado Days. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Margaret, Esther, Pauline and Mary, four brothers, Charlie, Arthur, Johnny and Tony Gaona. She is survived by her husband Elias Hernandez of Port Arthur, daughter, Sabrina Vrooman and husband Jeff of Port Arthur, son, Arthur Hernandez and wife Deborah of Groves, two grandchildren, Allison Hernandez and Mark Hernandez both of Groves. She is also survived by her sisters, Alice Garcia and husband Joe of Nederland, Frances Klaus of O'Fallon, Il. along with numerous nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the staff of Odyssey Hospice for their care and concern, to all the family and friends for their thoughts and prayers given to them and Flora.
