Florine M. Emerson

December 24, 1915 - July 1, 2011

Florine M. East Emerson died on July 1, 2011 at Christus St. Elizabeth's hospital in Beaumont, Texas. She born on December 24, 1915 in Port Arthur, Texas to Elvin and Myrhl Salome East and was a lifelong resident of the Port Arthur area. After graduating from high school she married Marvin L. Emerson January 2, 1936. They had four children. She loved to garden and grew hundreds of amaryllis which she unselfishly shared with friends and family. One can imagine that her amaryllis live on today all over Texas and Louisiana. She was a member of ABWA and attended Trinity Baptist Church where she was a member for 63 years; she attended Memorial Baptist Church for the past five years. She enjoyed making bouquets from her yard for members of the Golden Ages Senior's Group. She loved her Church and often donated flowers, trees and shrubs from her yard to be planted on the grounds. She was an avid reader for many years. She also loved to quilt, quilting for each of her four children and many of her grandchildren. In later years, she learned to crochet, making throws for family and friends. Florine was a gracious lady who was a special friend to all who knew her. She had a love for travel and traveled for years with her husband until his death in 1988. She then traveled with her friend of 91 years, Jo Sanders, as well as family members. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Marvin L. Emerson; her father Elvin F. East, mother Myrhl Salome East; brothers William East, Elvin F. East, Jr. Lawrence O. East and Elmo E, East; and, sisters Vivian Inez East Erwin, Evelyn East Morse. She is survived by her daughters Carolyn Russell and husband Norman Russell of Port Neches; Brenda Jones of Groves; Connie Eades and husband Hunter Eades of Shreveport; and son Marvin Lynn Emerson of Bridge City; brother, Don Roy East and wife Zane of Groves and sister Allie Myrhl McKay of Orange; twelve grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and nine great-great- grandchildren.
