Anita Hilda Wappler was one of six children born to Robert and Selma (nee Buchhorn) Zoch. She was born into this world October 18, 1921 in Walburg, Texas. She was baptized in the name of the Triune God-God the Father and God the Son and God the Holy Spirit at Zion Lutheran Church November 6, 1921 by Reverend J.R Sieck. It was there that she confirmed her baptismal vows under Reverend Sieck through the rite of Confirmation April 14, 1935. Anita grew up working on the family farm in Walburg, Texas. She attended and graduated from Zion Lutheran School. While living in Walburg, she met and married Joe Eckhart Wappler. They were married at Zion Lutheran Church November 7, 1943. Reverend J.K. Kollmeyer officiated at the wedding. After their marriage Joe and Anita moved to Port Arthur, Texas where Joe was employed at Gulfport Shipyard as a welder. Anita was a homemaker. God blessed them with three children, Karen, Stanley, and Dennis. They were married 59 years. Joe was called to his eternal rest in 2003. Joe and Anita were members of Trinity Lutheran Church since coming to Port Arthur in 1943. Anita was a charter member of the Trinity LWML and participated in the quilting group. Anita was an excellent seamstress, cook, and homemaker. She enjoyed working with flowers, gardening, canning, reading, doing puzzles, and embroidering. The Lord in His goodness and mercy, called her from this life to Himself in heaven this past Saturday. Her age was 89 years, 11 months, and 6 days. Preceding Anita in death were her husband, parents, one brother, and two sisters. Anita is survived by her children, Karen Southard of Athens, Texas; Stanley Wappler of Port Arthur, Texas; Dennis Wappler of Groves , Texas ; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters-Edna Hagood of Austin, Texas and Gladys Miller of Georgetown , Texas; and her nieces and nephews. In lieu of Flowers, family request donations to be made to the Van Fund at Trinity Lutheran Church in memory of Anita.
