Bernice Brown passed away on Oct. 14, 2011 at Baptist Hospital in Beaumont. Her passage to Heaven was as sudden as it was peaceful. Bernice was born in born in Jeanerette, Louisiana to Joseph and Ovelia Delcambre and was very proud of her Cajun roots. She was known to sprinkle a few well placed Louisiana French in her conversations, especially when displaying her excellent sense of humor. Bernice was a resident of Port Arthur for 36 years and an active member of St. Catherine's Church, belonging to a prayer group, the Altar Society and had a close relationship with The Lord. Bernice was a loving and doting mother. Her other passions included gardening and cooking. Bernice shared her flair for cooking with her family and friends. She would often bring her cooking to ailing friends in an effort to brighten their spirits. She may have been best known for her beautiful crocheted afghans she gave to her friends or anyone that needed a lift; often doing college themed pieces for the children of her friends in the colors of TCU, Baylor or A&M. Bernice's unselfish love will always be remembered by those fortunate enough to have crossed her path. This love extended to the animal kingdom as well. She adored her two cats and a Hurricane Rita stray that would come to her for a meal and a dry patio to sleep. Bernice is survived by her son James, her loving daughter Donna and her husband Robert Fillman, a sister Willie Mae Ledbetter, and brothers Paul and Herbert Delcambre. In lieu of flowers, Bernice's wishes were that memorial donations be made to the American Diabetes Foundation or the Humane Society of the United States. Bernice has gone home and undoubtably greeted her Father with a smile and said "Seigneur, je suis maison." Lord, I am home.
