Vera Long, 85, a longtime resident of Port Arthur and most recently living in Plano, Texas passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2011. She was born April 12, 1926 to Rena and Cam Thompson. She was a homemaker but also worked with Meals on Wheels, owned her own catering business and was an active member of The United Methodist Temple of Port Arthur for a the better part of her life. Vera was an elegant spirit with a quick wit that was with her until the end of her days and she will be missed by her family and everyone who was blessed to know her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl T. Long, Jr. and her granddaughter, Catherine Elaine Long. She is survived by her two sons, Carl "Tom" Long III and wife Christie of Dallas, Texas, Gary Long and wife Janis of Port Neches, Texas, her four grandchildren, Ryan Long, Megan Plese, Christina Taylor and Gary Long, Jr., and three great grandchildren, Keeley Glogau, Cora Long, and Alex Plese.
