Sidney Joseph Wolford, Jr.

April 22, 1912 - December 6, 2011

Sidney Joseph Wolford was born April 22, 1912 in Baldwin, Louisiana to the Late Sidney and Mamie Wolford, and passed away Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at Oak Grove Nursing Home. Mr. Wolford resided in Port Arthur most of his life. He graduated from Port Arthur High School and Port Arthur College. In 1977 He retired from Neches Butane as a Laboratory Shift Foreman. He was a member of St. Mark's Methodist Church. Mr. Wolford played tennis over 60 years and loved to fish, golf, work in his garden and play bridge. Some of his favorite memories were times he spent at his beloved camp. Mr. Wolford will be remembered as a loving and kind father, grandfather and father-in-law. In addition to his parents, Mr. Wolford was preceded in death by his brother, Earl Wolford, and his faithful and loving wife of 75 years, Lois Wolford. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Jerry McGaughey and two grandchildren. Other Survivors include several nephews and nieces including special niece Edith Brown. The family expresses their sincere thanks to Oak Grove Nursing Home and staff for making the last two years a "Home Away From Home", to special friends and caregivers Jackie and Victor Salinas and Odyssey Hospice, especially Karen, Brittney and Ashley. The caring and compassion he received are special gifts that cannot be measured. His wishes were to be cremated. A Memorial Service for Mr. Wolford and Mrs. Wolford (She passed away Oct. 21, 2011) is planned for Saturday, December 10 at 1:00 PM at Oak Grove Nursing Home. A Reception for family and friends will be held in the Activity Room at Oak Grove Nursing Home following the memorial service.
