Joseph Cornelius (J.C.) Schmidt, 84, of Mauriceville, Texas, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at St. Mary's Hospital in Port Arthur, Texas. Joseph was born on February 22, 1928 to John C. and Clara Harris Schmidt in New Orleans, Louisiana. He grew up in New Orleans, attending Robert C. Davey Elementary and Delgado Trade School. While in New Orleans, he met his future wife and the love of his life, Mildred Abadie, and they were married in 1947. They moved to Port Arthur, where they lived for 54 yrs raising their five children, before moving to Mauriceville. While in Port Arthur, J.C. was co-owner and Vice President of Marine and Industrial Machine Works, and later owned and operated the Golden Cask Supper Club. He also served as a city councilman for the town of Pear Ridge. One of J.C.'s favorite pastimes was traveling, and he took his children on yearly vacations from the east coast to the west coast. He enjoyed attending his children and grandchildren's school plays and concerts, and he often could be found watching his grand kids at their sporting events and graduations. He loved playing with his great-grandchildren and making them laugh. He was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, and will be greatly missed. J.C. is preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Abadie Schmidt, parents, John and Clara, and his grandson James Conor Williams. He is survived by his daughters, Millie Pritchard of Nederland, Stacie Williams and husband Brad of Port Neches, sons, Joey Schmidt of McKinney, Dr. John A. Schmidt and wife Bettye of Nederland, Dennis Schmidt of Mauriceville, sister, Dottie Keating of Covington, La., brothers, David H. Schmidt and John L. Schmidt of Metairie, La., 10 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.
