Leona C. Howard "Carrots", 90, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 23, at 7:20 PM at her home in Groves. She was born on December 4, 1921 in Reno, Pennsylvania. Leona graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur and worked as a confidential secretary at Texaco until her marriage. She and her husband James were married 59 years. She was a caring and loving person who loved life and nature. She is survived by her son, Donald William Howard of Groves, two granddaughters, Bobby Lynn Howard Nutter and Brenda Karen Howard of Beaumont, four great grandchildren, Payton, Summer, Jorden and Joey. She is also survived by her brother, James Cozad and wife Irma of Port Arthur, two sisters, Grace Brent of Nederland and Patricia Cousins of Danville, Virginia, sisters-in-law, Melva Cozad of Port Neches, Marjorie Cozad of Orange, Shirley Cozad of Groves along with many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her beloved caregivers, Delores Devillier, Cathy Levet and Mary Ann Decoux. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Reno Howard, her son, Robert Howard, parents, William K. and Grace Cozad, brothers, W. K. Cozad, Jr. of Port Neches, Mark E. Cozad of Ivanhoe and Fred D. Cozad of Groves. The family is honoring her wish to be cremated. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Leona's name can be made to Southeast Texas Humane Society or to Hughen Center in Port Arthur.
