William A. Holmes, Jr. (Bud) passed away at his home with his family by his side on May 28, 2012. Born in Corpus Christi to William A. and Joy G. Holmes on October 13, 1945, Bud grew up in Port Arthur. After graduating from high school, he went to work for Gulfport Shipyard. Upon learning he was being drafted into the Army, he took off to Colorado in his canary yellow mustang for a three-month adventure. He served in the Big Red 1st infantry during the Vietnam war. Bud loved this country and often expressed that one of his greatest honors was to serve his country. During his time of bravery, he obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Air Medal and the Bronze Star Medal. After serving his tour of military duty from August, 1967 to July, 1969, he was employed with Dupont Beaumont Works, retiringafter 40 years of service. During this time he earned an associates degree from Lamar Institute. Mr. Holmes was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Arlene Firmin. Surviving children are Holly Fernandez and husband Efrain, Kirk Holmes and wife Tiffany, Heather Harrington and husband Elliott. His adored grandchildren are Lacy Holmes, Taylor Holmes, Kaylee Holmes, Colby Boss and Easton Harrington. He is also survived by his sisters, LaNell DuBose and husband Kent, Mary Allison, brother Ira Holmes and wife Dena along with the mother of his children, Connie Holmes. For those desiring, the family request memorial contributions in Bud's name be made to the American Cancer Society.
