John C. Grimes

John C. Grimes, 94, of Groves, Texas passed away at Oak Grove Nursing Home on Thursday, June 21, 2012. He was born on May 15, 1918 to Velma Broom Grimes and John Grimes in Woodville, Texas. John served his country during WWII with the 82nd Airborne Division, he was awarded 6 bronze stars and a bronze arrow. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #797, where he served as chaplain for many years. John retired from Texaco. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Harley and James Grimes, his loving wife, Ida Grimes, his step-daughter, Georgiana Hlavinka and grandson, Trey Standley. He is survived by his step-daughters, Deborah Hanes and Jean Hanes of Groves, Texas, Sherry Hunt of Robertsdale, Alabama, Sandra Standley and Billy Standley of Austin, Texas, 12 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
