Walter Leysath, Sr., age 87 of Port Arthur passed away on Friday, September 28, 2012 at Southeast Texas Medical Center in Port Arthur, Texas. Walter was born in Mitchell, LA on August 6, 1925 to Sally Heard and Asbury Franklin Leysath. Walter married Anna Mae Johnson on October 3, 1947. He was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, where he cut grass for 28 years. Walter graduated from high school at Oak Grove in Louisiana. Walter worked as a Lab technician at Texaco for 38 years. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII from 1943 thru 1946. Walter had been a resident of Port Arthur for the last 67 years. Walter was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved going with his friends AJ Strahan and Ty Floyd. He enjoyed his trips to his brother-in-law, Sam Johnson's ranch, where he hunted, rode 4-wheelers and cut the grass with the tractor. Walter and Anna enjoyed many trips, traveling and camping in their RV for 20 years. Some of his favorite places to camp included Davis State Park and Lake Rayburn. Walter also volunteered as a Little League and Babe Ruth coach when his sons were young. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Walter Glynn Leysath, Jr. and all eight siblings. He is survived by his sons, Charles William Leysath and wife Maggie of Onalaska, TX, James Franklin Leysath and wife Jan of Beaumont, TX; daughters, Elizabeth Suzanne Welfel and husband Freddie of Bryan, TX, Beverly Kay Smith and husband George of Platteville, WI; grandchildren, Justin Nathanial McBeth, Julian Sean McBeth, Benjamin Alexander McBeth, Samuel Mitchell McBeth, Johannes Charles Egbers and wife Lori, Alexander Garrett-Didius Egbers, Cedric Arthur Franklin Egbers and one great granddaughter, Isla Shea Egbers. Visitation will be on Monday October 1, 2012 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home. Funeral service will be on Tuesday October 2, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at St John's United Methodist Church in Port Acres, Texas with internment to follow at Memory Garden Cemetery.
