Louella Adams Gaspard 1926-2013 Louella Gaspard, a 70-year resident of Port Arthur, died Thursday March 7 in Angleton, Texas after a lengthy illness. She recently celebrated her 87th birthday with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Remus and Lula Adams; her husband, Elwood; a daughter, Janeen Gaspard Soileau, and a son, Leslie. She and Elwood Gaspard married and had three children: Janeen and Leslie and her only remaining child...Orren(wife Margaret Johnson Gaspard) of Lake Jackson, Texas. She has three grandchildren: Nanette Soileau of Conroe, and Dyan Pederson and Brenda Woody of Gresham, Oregon; three great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and extended family. She is also survived by her loving brother and sister: John Weldon Adams of Nederland (wife-Judy Molloy) and Sandy Adams Walker of Santa Rosa, California (husband-Harold Walker). Louella was born in Crowley, Louisiana, in 1926, and reared in Kaplan, Louisiana, where she was graduated from Kaplan High School. She moved to Port Arthur in 1943 and was employed at Texaco Island. She had many stories of fun with her cousins: Joyce Simon Hebert, Georgie Simon Oltremarie; and Andrus and Una Adams. Louella and her husband were charter members of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Mr. Gaspard was instrumental in building the first sanctuary--now Cody Hall, at St. Joseph. She also served as president of the Altar Society there and enjoyed the many dinners she was able to help provide. She was known for her church-wide gumbo dinners. While raising her children she also was office manager for her husband's paint contracting business. After his retirement, she became a head cook with the Port Arthur ISD and retired from Travis Elementary. Known for her cooking, her feisty sense of humor and her generous hospitality, Louella made friends easily throughout her life. She touched many lives and will be missed by so many. Burial to follow services at Calvary Cemetery in Port Arthur Pallbearers will be: Jarrod Buxton, Brock Wagner, Arbery Taylor, John McSwain, Gage Baker and John Weldon Adams. Honorary pallbearers: Andrus Adams, Jim Hill, Frank Andrews, G.W. Johnson and Harold Walker.
