William C. "Bill" Bennett, 81, of Bridge City, Passed away Wednesday, August 21st, 2013 at his home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 24th, at 2:00 p.m. at Clayton-Thompson Funeral Home in Groves with Rev. Paul Zoch of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Bridge City officiating. Visitation with family and friends will be Friday, Aug. 23rd from 6:00 to 8:00 at the funeral home. Born on February 25th, 1932 in DeRidder, LA, Bill was the son of Alma Dimsky Bennett McCoy and William Louis Bennett. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army where he out-shot 800 men in a training competition and won a Safety Service Award for over 10,000 miles of safe driving. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1950 and attended Lamar University. He retired from Quantum Chemical in 1993 after serving 20 years as a pipefitter in maintenance. Those left to cherish him are his wife of 53 years, Marilyn Bennett; his son, Jeff and his wife, Virginia of Chattanooga, TN; son, Chris Bennett of Cypress; daughter, Dawn Warr and her husband, Shane of Hillister; daughter, Susan Norton and her husband, Jeremy of Bridge City, two granddaughters, Loren and Autumn Bennett of Chattanooga TN and his children from a previous marriage are his son, Reggie and his wife, Marina of Port Neches; daughter, Arleen Barnes of Houston, grandchildren, Reggie Bennett, Jr., Sherry Castillo, Jennifer Vargas, Christopher Barnes and Andrew Barnes and eight great grandchildren. Bill loved the Lord, read his Bible and was well-known for quoting scripture. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Bill was a great storyteller and was famous for "using his hands" when he spoke. He enjoyed sprinting on the Bridge City H.S. track and kept log books of his runs. He could be seen bicycling through his neighborhood, doing woodworking in his garage, or putting his neighbors' trash cans away after retirement. He was an avid sports fan but his favorite team, by far, was the Texas Longhorns. He also loved the challenge of testing his sports knowledge by playing, "Beat Bob West" and claimed several wins through the years.
