Ruth Dugan Berton Emery, 99, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Friday, December 27, 2013. She was born on March 5, 1914 to Wesley and Rose Dugan in Port Arthur, TX. She attended Port Arthur public schools and was graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and lived in Port Arthur her entire life. She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Alvin M. Berton and William H. Emery, brother, Wesley M. Dugan, Jr. and wife Dotsy, and sisters, Pearl Willis and Lydia Trahan, brother, ruce Dugan and son-in-law, Jonathan Wolfe. Ruth is survived by her two daughters, Kate Berton Brown and husband, Murray of Groves, Shirley Berton Henning and husband, J.C. of Shendandoah, TX. Five grandchildren, Doug Henning of Austin, Ruthie Wolfe of Groves, Craig Henning and wife, Laurel of Coldspring, TX., Betsy Barton and husband, Scott of Spring, TX., Stewart Brown and wife, Kelley of Groves. Eleven great-grandchildren, Joseph Wolfe, Matthew Wolfe and wife, Amy, Benjamin Wolfe and wife, Kaitlyn, Jessica Brown, Jarrod Brown, Jenny Brown, Jeffery Barton and wife, Lindsay, Adam Henning, Jenny Barton, Amanda Henning, Jessica Barton. Six great-great grandchildren, Jeffrey Wolfe, Kadence Wolfe, Jacob Wolfe, Max Wolfe, Peyton Wolfe and Liam Barton. Also surviving Ruth is a sister Elsie Dugan Pace and husband, T. L. of League City, TX., sister-in-law, Aileen Dugan of Scottsdale, AZ. and many nieces and nephews. Much of Ruth's life was centered around activities at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Groves where she was a member for over 75 years and active in the Ladies Aide and children's care. She looked forward to the day when Jesus called her home to live with Him forever. A service of celebration of her life will be held on Monday, December 30 at 11:00 AM with visitation from 10-11 AM at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 2711 Helena, Nederland, where she was a member, with Pastor Francis Schroeder, officiating and interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Holy Cross Lutheran Church or the charity of your choice.
