Rufus Smith age 78 of Port Arthur passed away on Monday, January 27, 2014 at Harbor Hospice House in Beaumont. Rufus was born on July 23, 1935 in Hampshire, Texas to Irvin and Olivia Tomplait Smith. Rufus was a 75 year resident of Port Arthur and retired from the Sheet Metal Local after 30 years of service and was a member of the National Guard for 8 years during the Korean conflict. Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home. Funeral service will be on Thursday, January 30, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. in the Thompson Memorial Chapel of Clayton Thompson with entombment to follow at the Chapel of Jesus Mausoleum in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Rufus was preceded in death by his parents and several brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife, Frances Arlene Smith of Port Arthur, daughters, Connie and husband Richard Tassin of Groves, Jennifer and husband Charlie Hallmark of Nederland, step-daughter, Erisa and husband Randy Hartman of Port Neches. brother, Donald Ray and wife Mary Lou Smith of Port Arthur, sister, Daisy and husband Ray Swanzy of Port Arthur, five grandchildren, Joshua Hallmark, Courtney Tassin, Ethan Lehr, Caitlin Tassin, and Jaycee Lehr. Step-grandchildren, Randy and wife Jill Hartman, Jr. of Nederland, Bill and Laurie Goren of Austin, Erisa Ann and Kris Boneau of Nederland, Jennifer and Jeremy Morvant of Port Arthur, step-great grandchildren, Reece Boneau, Maya Boneau, William Goren, John Goren and Tyler Hanlon and one great grandchild, Alden Hallmark.
