Elvira Gomez, of Port Neches, TX, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, May 29, 2014. She was born December 6, 1921 in Mexico to Inocente Cardona and Maria Isabel Cardona. Elvira was united in Holy Matrimony on August 6, 1945 to Silverio Gomez. They were blessed with 52 years of marriage. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe for 61 years and a member of Las Damas Guadalupanas. Elvira Gomez was a homemaker who loved to cook. She devoted her life to God, family and friends. She lived her life entirely in faith. She will never know how she impacted the people around her but those fortunate enough to be touched and guided by her learned the virtues she lived by and instilled in others: Faith, honesty, integrity, respect and humility. She nurtured, loved, comforted, and prayed for all of us. She will be truly missed. She is preceded in death by husband Silverio Gomez, infant son Victor Gomez, son Hector Gomez and grandson Michael John Lopez. Four brothers and three sisters also welcome her home to the Lord. She is survived by her daughters, Alice Lopez (Celestino Jr.), Martha Miller (Creig), Diana Kasper (Jon Herndon) all of Port Neches; Gloria Massey (Bob), and Rosa Guidry (Ray) of Beaumont, and son Victor Gomez (Martha) of Groves. She had 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. A special recognition goes to her niece Imelda Garcia for her love and devotion to Elvira Gomez. A gathering of Mrs. Gomez's family and friends will be at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home, Groves, TX. from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, with a Rosary recited at 6:00 PM on Sunday, June 1st 2014. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Monday, June 2nd 2014, at Our Lady of Guadalupe, Port Arthur, TX. with Rev T Blanco officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Cemetery.
